WHAT IT’S WORTH

You already know me,
See me on the news, and the economy,
In the silence of vaults,
And the tidy records of accounts,
I’m immense,
From humble beginnings such as cowries,
To rituals and dowries,
I’m not evil, neither good,
I love humans,
Croesus, Mansa Musa, Bill Gates, they know I love company,
I’m immense, no pretence,
From humble beginnings; barter,
To sophisticated IOUs and crypto,
I’m worshipped as god,
Warzones, insurance, hospital beds,
I am there,
Death is a friend,
I like the feel of different hands,
Black, white, brown; they all the same,
Capitalism? Communism? Patriarchy? Feminism?
Inferior ideas to my schisms,
From humble beginnings in your mind,
I am Supreme,
One idea for the whole team,
Yen, USD, Euro, Pound Sterling, Renminbi, Roubles, Franks,
And many more substitutes,
In previous lives I was gold, silver, precious stones,
Still I am, more or less,
Fresh from the printer,
Paper with faces, symbols, and useless words,
“Legal Tender For”,
I am the Law,
From humble beginnings to world domination,
I have no value by myself but I give value to your stuff,
By my name you buy,
I am the greatest human invention ever made,
If you don’t have me, goodbye,
Your whole life you look for me,
I decide how you live,
You think you go to work but you work for me,
Reporting for “What it’s Worth”,

I am Money.
